For many years, my dad, William Robert Troehler, quietly lived the faith he professed. He led by example.
He was a husband, father, grandfather, and a man whose trust in God shaped the lives of those around him. Through times of joy and times of hardship, he remained steadfast in his faith and devoted to his family.
One of Dad’s favorite Scripture passages was Jesus’ teaching about the lilies of the field:
“Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.” (Matthew 6:28-29)
Those words reflected the way he lived—with trust, humility, gratitude, and an appreciation for the simple blessings God provides.
The photograph above captures the joy that so many of us remember. It is the smile of a man who loved his family, cherished his faith, and found happiness in being together.
Dad passed away in 2004 after nearly sixty years of marriage to Mom. His example continues to guide our family and reminds us that faith is often taught not through words, but through the way a life is lived.
In loving memory of William Robert Troehler (1927–2004).
